Amateur Astronomy

 

Amateur astronomy is a astonishing hobby for people all over the world. The word Astronomy is derived from the greek αστρονομία, astronomia, from the words άστρον and νόμος. Which means "laws of the stars". Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences known to man and is the scientific study of celestial objects such as galaxies, stars, comets, and planets that originate outside the earth's atmosphere. It is concerned with the evolution of the formation and development of what we know as the universe. Based on dictionary definitions, "astronomy" refers to the study of matter and objects outside the earth's atmosphere and their chemical and physical properties. Amateur astronomy is studied and consists people of all ages from kids to grown ups.

 

  Before the invention of the telescope astronomy only comprised the predictions and observations of the motions of objects visible to the naked eye and early studies of the stars had to be observed from vantage points available such as trees, tall buildings and high ground such as Stonehenge for example. Today with the invention of telescopes and If you are interested in amateur astronomy and want to observe the stars in the area of your home to bring you closer to the stars that you, your family and friends can enjoy maybe amateur astronomy is the hobby for you. Amateur astronomy has made many fantastic contributions of astronomical discoveries. Plus amateur astronomy is one of the few sciences where amateur astronomy can still play a significant role in when you don't have to be a scientist in astronomy.

Amateur astronomy is a subset of astronomy, is a hobby in which involves people who enjoy viewing celestial objects. Although Amateur astronomers view the night sky with nothing more than the naked eye which man has been doing for decades. The primary tools for amateur astronomy involve the use of binoculars and portable telescopes other than the naked eye. Amateur astronomy consists of observing a menu of celestial objects and phenomena such as the stars, moon, planets, meteor showers and comets. Amateur astronomy also consists of viewing deep sky objects such as galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae. Amateur astronomy consists of a whole venue of intrests depending on what intrests you such as particular objects and events. Amateur astrophotography for example a branch of amateur astronomy has become a very popular among amateur astronomers since CCD cameras have become more affordable to the general public which involves taking pictures of the night sky of there particular intrests..
